In the said post, Alai claimed that Mr. Ilado fabricated the news article and staff at the Star had casted doubt about it. Comments that the Star and Mr. Ilado have termed as false and has caused reputational harm.
“The imputation that Mr. Paul Ilado fabricated a news story and acted without evidence or integrity amounts to an egregious attack on his professional reputation and ethics. Further, the assertion that The Star’s own editorial team is questioning his conduct is a deliberate and unfounded misrepresentation designed to discredit both Mr. Ilado and The Star Publications Limited, in which he is an Editorial Director,” reads court documents.
The plaintiffs have demanded that Alai pulls down the post and publishes an express, unambiguous and unqualified apology to the Star Publication and Mr. Ilado.
Alai is also required to cease and desist from publishing any further false, defamatory or disparaging remarks.
The Kileleshwa MCA has recently been seen targeting media practitioners through claims made on social media.
Last week, Citizen TV host Fred Machoka also sued Alai over defamatory remarks regarding his health status. Machoka termed Alai’s claims false, defamatory and demanded Ksh.60 million in damages.
