NiChief Justice David Maraga has shocked the country by calling for the immediate arrest of top police leaders.

He wants Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome Kanja, Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin and Deputy Inspector General of Police Lagat arrested over serious human rights violations.

Maraga said the three leaders have failed in their duties and must be held responsible for recent police actions that have hurt innocent citizens.

He spoke during a press briefing in Nairobi where he was joined by other leaders and human rights groups.

According to Maraga, the police under these leaders have used too much force against peaceful protesters and even caused the deaths of suspects while in custody.

He said this is against the law and cannot be accepted in a free country like Kenya.

“We cannot allow police officers to continue mistreating Kenyans. The law must be followed and those in charge must be punished for breaking it,” Maraga said.

He also mentioned the death of Albert Ojwang’, a young man who died in police custody. His case has caused public outrage and led to many protests in different parts of the country.

Maraga asked the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to move fast and charge the three police bosses. He said this will send a strong message to all leaders that no one is above the law.

So far, the National Police Service has not released a statement about Maraga’s demands. However, Kenyans on social media have praised his bold stand and are calling for justice.

The call for accountability continues to grow as more citizens demand action from the government.
