Pressure is mounting on the National Police Service as citizens continue to voice outrage over the death of Albert Ojwang in custody at Central Police Station. Among the most forceful demands yet is a viral statement by X (formerly Twitter) user Cornelius Rono, who accused the station of being a “criminal enterprise” and called for high-level resignations.
“Central Police Station is a criminal enterprise. It should be shut down immediately. We want to see DIG Eliud Langat and Douglas Kanja resigning. #JusticeForAlbertOjwang”, Rono posted on Monday morning.
His post sparked heated debate online, quickly gaining traction under the hashtag #JusticeForAlbertOjwang, which continues to trend across social media platforms.
The call comes just hours after Inspector General Japhet Koome Kanja suspended the entire duty team at Central Police Station pending investigations into Ojwang’s mysterious death. While police officials have pledged transparency, the public appears increasingly skeptical of internal investigations, with many demanding independent oversight and leadership changes.
Rono’s statement reflects growing calls for deeper accountability beyond frontline officers, pointing to what many critics describe as a culture of impunity within the police hierarchy.
DIG Eliud Langat and Deputy IG Douglas Kanja have not issued public responses to the growing calls for their resignation.
Meanwhile, protests are reportedly being planned across Nairobi and other major cities, as citizens prepare to take their frustration to the streets, determined to ensure that Albert Ojwang’s death is not forgotten and that justice is served.
