MP Didmus Barasa Blasts Alleged Launch of Kalonzo State Lodge in Viral Photo

Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa, has sharply reacted to a recent viral photo showing the launch of the “Kalonzo State Lodge” by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The photo, which features a plaque indicating the launch date as June 6, 2025, has sparked online debate and confusion, especially due to the name Kalonzo on the state facility.

Taking to X, Barasa criticized the act with strong words, calling it absurd and foolish.

“Wamunyoro has plunged headlong into the absurd abyss of jest, pushing his tomfoolery to such preposterous extremes! Crazy!” he wrote.

Barasa’s statement, although packed with complex language, clearly showed his disapproval. He seemed to suggest that naming a state lodge after Kalonzo Musyoka, a political figure from a rival camp, and launching it with such fanfare was both laughable and misguided.

The image shows a plaque bearing the name “Kalonzo State Lodge,” unveiled by Rigathi Gachagua, the former Deputy President of Kenya.

The words on the plaque state that the facility was allegedly launched yesterday during the meet the people tour in the region.

However, what caught many people’s attention was the name itself, Kalonzo which appears unusual for a state facility, launched by his fellow opposition leader.

Many Kenyans online have questioned the reasoning behind naming the lodge this way. Others joined Barasa in criticizing the move, while some took a humorous approach, turning the matter into an online meme.

As of now, it remains unclear why the lodge carries the Kalonzo’s name, or if it holds any connection to the Wiper Party leader.

No official statement has been made to clarify, the reasoning behind the name choice.
