Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will take their unity popularisation campaigns to the Coast region today, Saturday, June 7, 2025.
The two top opposition leaders embarked on a two-day campaign blitz on Friday, holding roadside rallies at various stops in the Ukambani region as they made their way to the Coast.
They were accompanied by several prominent politicians, including former CS and DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, CS Mithika Linturi, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa, Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo, Jubilee Party Chairman Saitoti Njoroge, and Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr.
On Friday, their campaign caravan swept through Malili, Sultan Hamud, Emali, Makindu, Kibwezi, and Machinery.
On Saturday, the leaders are expected to traverse the Coast region, beginning in Voi Town before heading to Maungu, Mariakani, Mazeras, and ending the day with a major rally in Kisauni.
This marks the first time the opposition heavyweights are taking their joint campaigns to the Coast region—an area traditionally seen as a stronghold of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Raila’s recent move to sign a cooperation agreement with President William Ruto has triggered a political shake-up, with the opposition now eyeing a significant share of the coastal vote.
On Friday, June 6, the leaders addressed several stopovers in Ukambani along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway, declaring an all-out political offensive aimed at ending President Ruto’s term in 2027.
The two, once political rivals, have now united in what they described as the beginning of a nationwide movement to oust the Kenya Kwanza administration.
They criticised Ruto’s government of “destroying the country’s economy by raiding the pockets of Kenyans,” particularly targeting employed citizens, who are subjected to unnecessary tax deductions.”
“We have come here with Kalonzo to start the journey of making Ruto a one-term President. We are here to declare that we are together in this mission,” Gachagua told a crowd in Malili, Makueni County.
“We are committed to pursuing the change we believe is necessary—an unstoppable movement toward a new regime that truly serves the interests of our people,” he added.
The leaders pledged to unite behind a single presidential candidate in 2027 to take on President Ruto, promising a well-organised campaign with trained agents at every polling station to counter alleged election rigging.
“Even if they stuff the IEBC with their puppets, we will beat them at every polling station. Our agents will relay real-time results. No tricks. No games,” Kalonzo said defiantly.
“Time is up for this administration.”
The former Vice President also promised to reverse key policies of the Ruto administration, including the controversial housing levy.
“Our Executive Order No. 1 will be to scrap the housing levy,” Kalonzo announced.
The leaders said the whistle-stop tour is just the beginning of what they promised will be a bruising political showdown leading up to a change in government in 2027.
