United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has issued summons to two nominated Members of County Assembly (MCAs), Ann Thumbi from Nyeri and Joy Muthoni from Nairobi.
The party alleges they participated in political activities linked to a new political outfit associated with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Sources within UDA say the two MCAs were spotted attending planning meetings connected to the Deputy President’s emerging faction, which many believe is laying the groundwork for a new party ahead of the 2027 general election.
This has raised alarms in the ruling party, with insiders warning of growing divisions.
The summons, which were sent through UDA’s disciplinary committee, instruct the two leaders to explain why they should not face action for what the party terms as “disloyal conduct.” According to party insiders, the MCAs may have violated UDA’s rules on allegiance and discipline by supporting a rival movement while still enjoying the privileges of nomination under UDA.
Political analysts believe this latest move signals a deepening rift between President William Ruto’s core team and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The DP has recently been holding separate meetings with leaders from Mt. Kenya, sparking speculation about his future political direction.
The fate of the two MCAs now hangs in the balance. If found guilty, they risk expulsion from the party and possible replacement in their seats.
This would not only weaken Gachagua’s influence within UDA but also send a strong message to other leaders seen to be drifting from the party line.
As internal battles play out, many Kenyans are watching to see how the UDA leadership will handle dissent ahead of a tense political season.
The story of Ann Thumbi and Joy Muthoni could be just the beginning of deeper cracks within the ruling party.
