The walls may be closing in on Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, as the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) now seeks to completely bar him from all county government offices in a high-stakes corruption case involving KSh 1.46 billion.
Court filings reveal the EACC has asked a judge to tighten bail conditions against the embattled governor, alleging he has breached earlier orders that restricted him from accessing the county headquarters.
According to the EACC, Natembeya relocated his operations to sub-county offices—a move they say could jeopardize the integrity of ongoing investigations.
EACC Assistant Director Emmanuel Arunga argues that vital documents related to the alleged procurement fraud, bribery, and abuse of office are spread across sub-county offices in Kiminini, Saboti, Endebess, Kwanza, and Cherangany.
“The investigation scope is not limited to the headquarters. Allowing him access to sub-county facilities creates the same risk of interference,” reads the affidavit.
The commission now wants Natembeya banned from all official premises until the probe is concluded.
The corruption allegations span two fiscal years—2022/2023 and 2024/2025—and center on suspected misappropriation of funds through dubious tenders and irregular expenditure.
This legal escalation follows a dramatic March raid at Natembeya’s Kitale home, where unknown individuals vandalized five EACC vehicles and stole items during a court-sanctioned operation. A separate case is ongoing regarding the attack.
Natembeya has denied the charges and insisted that the allegations are politically motivated.
If the court grants EACC’s latest request, it would effectively isolate the governor from the very offices he was elected to run, casting a long shadow over the rest of his term.
