This comes following the discovery of the bodies of two men from Elgeyo Marakwet, believed to be linked to the priest’s death, who were found dumped by the roadside in Soin, Nakuru county, sparking fresh questions.

The deceased were identified by their families as Simeon Yego Chacha and Collins Kipyatich.

How were abductions of Simeon, Collins carried out

The two had gone missing on Friday, May 30, and their families claim their deaths are tied to the ongoing investigation into Father Bett’s murder.

However, Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Abdi Hassan dismissed these claims, insisting that investigations are still ongoing.

At the Nakuru Annex mortuary, grieving families recounted how the men were abducted in broad daylight, just hours apart, under circumstances that raise more questions.

Kipyatich was the first to be taken while undergoing a routine check-up for malaria at the Tot Health Centre in Elgeyo Marakwet when an ambulance suddenly arrived.

According to Wilfred Yego, Simeon’s brother, Collins was pulled from his hospital bed and forcibly taken away.

Hours later, Simeon, a taxi driver, was driving his Probox for his last drop-off to Tot Health Centre, trying to beat the curfew, when an ambulance blocked his path.

Armed men emerged from the van, dragged him out of his car, and forced him into the ambulance.

How are Elgeyo Markwet deaths connected to Father Bett

Wilfred explained that Simeon was carrying a female passenger at the time as the abductors seized control of the Probox, driving it behind the ambulance.

Upon reaching the border between Baringo and Elgeyo Marakwet counties, they forced the woman out, telling her a military armoured vehicle would pick her up.

The armoured vehicle did arrive, dropping her off safely at the Tot Health Center.

During this ordeal, the passenger was interrogated by the driver, believed to be a police officer, who questioned her about any knowledge of the killers of Father Bett.

She reportedly denied any involvement or information, stating she was married and had just come home to visit.

“This girl said she was asked, “Do you know the people who killed the priest who was killed?” She replied, “No, I’m married now and just came back home to visit, so I have no information,” Simeon’s brother revealed.

Where were Simeon, Collins’ bodies found?

As earlier reported, the families promptly reported the disappearances at the Tot Police Station the following day.

Their hopes for a safe return were shattered when the mutilated bodies were discovered in Soin village, Rongai sub-county, over 200 kilometres from where they were last seen.

Wilfred described the grisly state in which Simeon and Collins were found, revealing that they appeared tortured.

They revealed that Simeon had recently entered the transport business after losing his livestock to banditry.

The deceased’s son had also been shot by the bandits about a year ago, according to family members.

Despite a string of challenges he encountered, friends and relatives of Simeon said he was determined to excel and help others achieve their dreams.

Wilfred described him as a peace champion, a businessman, and a church elder who had endured personal tragedy.

The family is calling for speedy investigations into the gruesome murder of Simeon and Collins to establish the motive behind it.

Nakuru police commander Michael Mwaura said the police would do everything within their means to arrest the killers of the two victims.
