Corporal Jonah Kemboi Rotich, a long-serving bodyguard of former Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, was laid to rest at his home in Mlango village, Kaseret, Uasin Gishu county.

His funeral was attended by family and friends, including the former Sports CS, who mourned Rotich as a humble and honest man he had entrusted with protecting him and his family for 18 years.
However, what began as a peaceful and sombre ceremony turned chaotic when Rotich’s brother took the microphone to give his tribute.
He first described his brother as a calm person, unlike himself, and added that Rotich had endured many struggles silently.

“His Excellency Ababu Namwamba, you were with my brother while he worked for you, but you would never have known the kind of life he was living at home. He could not publicly express his frustrations, anger, or worries,” he began.
What did the late Jonah Rotich’s brother say at his burial
The grieving man accused his late brother’s wife of mistreating him during his lifetime, claiming Rotich had confided in him.
“When Jonah was unwell, he told me that he always did his job and fulfilled his responsibilities at home. He said even his boss, Ababu, had never had an issue with him in the 18 years he served, but at home, there was never peace,” he said, visibly emotional.

He went on to declare that he would speak the full truth, adding that anyone who felt offended by his remarks should deal with their anger—because he no longer cared.
He acknowledged that Rotich had been ill, which eventually led to his death, but insisted his brother had endured a lot of emotional stress and lacked peace at home.
“A person is supposed to find peace in their own home after work, but Jonah’s case was the opposite. I am in so much pain because my brother went through all this,” he shared.
His speech was abruptly cut short when the widow confronted him, asking to be respected. She walked towards him, pointing a finger and crying, causing a scene that disrupted the ceremony.
