Was Wanja booed by fans?

This came just weeks after being spotted at Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s Karen residence.

The tension in the air was evident the moment the MC called her to the stage.

Instead of cheers, loud chants of “Wantam,” a catchphrase popularised by former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua to signify his push for a one-term presidency for William Ruto, rang through the crowd.

Despite the heckling, Wanja managed to win over a good portion of the audience and pressed on with her performance.

However, some defiant revellers continued to chant against her throughout her set.

After the event, the singer appeared to subtly address the backlash via social media, sharing a photo of herself dancing with Kindiki and captioning it:

“Mimi sitaki mambo mingi.”

The meeting between Wanja and other Kikuyu musicians with Kindiki sparked outrage from Gachagua, who accused them of betraying the community and demanded public apologies from everyone who attended.

While a number of artistes have since issued apologies, either directly or indirectly, Wanja has not done the same, making her a continued target of backlash from a section of fans.

Gachagua previously warned that those who failed to apologise would face consequences, including being boycotted from events and shows, a threat that now seems to be materialising.
