Tension erupted at Laikipia Airbase on Sunday after a senior prosecutor stormed her husband’s residence and allegedly assaulted a woman she found in their home.
Joan Muthoni, an Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, is reported to have caused a scene at the heavily guarded military facility after learning that her husband, a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer, had brought a female visitor into their matrimonial house.
According to a police report filed at Nanyuki Police Station, Muthoni arrived at the base accompanied by her daughter and sister-in-law. Despite being blocked by military guards, she forced her way into the compound and went straight to her husband’s house.
Upon entry, she confronted the 28-year-old civilian woman found inside and allegedly attacked her by pulling her hair and slapping her several times. Military officers on duty quickly intervened to stop the altercation.
The woman sustained minor injuries and was treated at the base’s medical unit.
The incident has sparked investigations by the military police for breach of base security, and local authorities have also taken up the matter.
Efforts to get official comments from the Kenya Defence Forces and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions have so far been unsuccessful.
