Minority Leader Junet Mohamed has launched a scathing attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of defying the law and making reckless statements that could stir chaos in the country.
Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, May 27, just after the House resumed from recess, Junet called for an urgent discussion on what he termed as growing political threats.
He warned that Gachagua’s recent remarks, seen by many as a warning of possible post-election violence, should not be taken lightly.
Junet told the House that Gachagua has openly ignored summons from key government bodies such as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
“This man thinks he is untouchable. He refuses to appear before constitutional commissions that are meant to keep leaders in check. He’s behaving like someone above the law, and this silence from the government is dangerous,” stated Gachagua.
He accused the current administration of turning a blind eye to Gachagua’s actions.
“If this were an ODM government, Gachagua would already be behind bars,” Junet declared.
The MP further claimed that Gachagua was trying to divide Kenyans by fueling ethnic tensions and warned that such behavior could take the country back to the dark days of the 2007/2008 post-election violence.
“He is playing with fire. People lost their lives and property in 2007. We cannot afford to go down that road again,” Junet said.
He urged Parliament and the relevant authorities to take the matter seriously and ensure that no one is allowed to threaten the peace and unity of the nation.
