In an interview with TUKO.co.ke, the young man identified as Joseph Ochieng said that on the material day, two young women boarded the matatu and when he asked them for fare, they were KSh 20 short.

“KSh 20 ruined my whole life; after spending 34 days in remand and being released at KSh 70000, I am left with no job, money, three months’ rent arrears, and no school fees,” Ochieng.

Ochieng went to school up to college level, where he studied English Literature but sadly, he did not manage to sit for the last exams, as his father died and he could not afford fare anymore.

With there being no chance of Ochieng furthering his education, he decided to take any job that came his way.

“I am a conductor under K.M.O. Sacco, operating along Kangundo Road. On Sunday the two ladies boarded my 33-seater vehicle at Ruai and gave me KSh 20 saying that they would alight at chokaa,” he said.

“I requested them to add me KSh 40ksh because Chokaa is KSh 30 per person. One of the girls started abusing me, telling me, saying drop me the way Super Metro dropped someone to death on Thika Road,” explained Ochieng.

The girl allegedly refused to sit down even after Ochieng offered her a free ride due to pressure.

“I pushed the girl to sit down and by bad luck, she was mildly scratched on the eye and had a minor cut. I took the girl to the hospital paid the bill then gave her trasport money to go where she was going,” said Ochieng.

“One week later I was being arrested in a company of my driver under heavy security. I was charged with abduction and taken to court taken to court for abduction then allegedly subjected to grievous harm,” he added.

Ochieng was released on a KSh 70,000 cash bail which I could not afford so I spent 34 days at the Industrial Area remand, which was not easy.

“Iam in the process of reconciliation with the girl who insists that I need to pay her KSh 200,000 as compensation fee. Since I left jail I have never had peace.

“No job, money an the house was closed. My child is not going to school and I feel it is unfair since I did not intentionally hurt the girl,” he said.
