A day after being released on bail, embattled Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya has come out with a message to his supporters.
In a video posted on his social media platforms, the governor revealed to his supporters the one thing that caught him off guard and shocked him after he was released from police custody.
Natembeya says he was shocked to find out that he has such a huge following of supporters that went to the streets to demonstrate against his arrest. “I was shocked to find out that I have such a huge following,” he said.
Natembeya additionally thanked his supporters and promised to continue doing good so long as God continues to give him the opportunity. “I will continue to do good and serve my people well so long as God continues to give me the opportunity, ” he promised.
Natembeya’s revelation of ‘shock’ after release follows an incident where hundreds of supporters flooded the streets of his Kitale hometown early morning following reports that he has been arrested and charged by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission.
Though demonstrations were not witnessed around the country, residents and supporters outside Trans Nzoia also stood in solidarity with the governor through social media posts and direct messages to the governor.
Supporters of the governor have alleged that the governor’s arrest was sponsored by agents of the state due his dissenting voice against the system. EACC has however insisted that his arrest was purely informed by investigations that implicated the governor on corruption activities.
