Kenyans Defend Ruto, Tears Into Wamalwa After Crediting Uhuru in Mukuru Housing Drama

Kenyans have taken to social media to defend President William Ruto following criticism from the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) over the recently completed affordable housing project in Mukuru kwa Njenga.

DAP-K, associated with former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, claimed the project was initiated by former President Uhuru Kenyatta under the Big Four Agenda and accused Ruto of taking credit for work he did not start.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta started the Mukuru affordable houses under the Big Four Agenda without the illegal housing levy. We must call out lies when we see them,” the party said in a post on X.

However, the remarks sparked a wave of responses from Kenyans, many of whom dismissed the criticism and praised Ruto for completing and delivering the houses to the public.

“So affordable housing is only a good project when Uhuru is doing it? When Ruto does it, suddenly it’s a problem? You forgot about Huduma Namba, which went nowhere,” one user said.

“Did Uhuru finish the project? No. Credit goes to Ruto. You were the same people dismissing the housing plan not long ago,” another commented.

Others argued that what matters is not who started the project, but who delivered it to the people.

“Starting something doesn’t mean much if it’s never completed. The houses are now ready, and people are moving in. That’s what counts.”

Some comments also had a sarcastic tone, with one user saying, “If Uhuru started them, why didn’t he finish? Those jealous can cry if they want.”

Earlier today, President Ruto officially handed over the completed units to families in Mukuru kwa Njenga, marking a milestone in his administration’s housing agenda.

While the debate continues over credit and ownership of the project, many Kenyans appear focused on the results, homes built and lives changed.
