Kiambu – Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has disagreed with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga regarding the position of the ODM party in President William Ruto’s administration.
Why Alice Wahome criticised ODM party
The veteran opposition leader has consistently dismissed claims that his Orange Party is part of the Kenya Kwanza government following his Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ruto.

Speaking in Kiambu County on Monday, May 19, Wahome accused the ODM leader of double standards in his dealings with the Kenya Kwanza government.
Wahome suggested that ODM leaders denying they are part of Ruto’s administration are confused, as this is their first time being in government.
While urging ODM leaders to fully support the government’s programmes, the Lands CS said it is illogical for the Orange Party leadership to deny that it is part of the broad-based government.
“Our friends with whom we have joined hands in forming the broad-based government, some of them are confused because they have never been in government. This is the first time, and it is just because President William Ruto has agreed to share power with the opposition. Some are saying they are CS, sometimes they say they came to support us, but they are not in the government. You cannot have your cake and eat it,” Wahome said.
Wahome insisted that under the current arrangement, Raila’s party, alongside other Kenya Kwanza Alliance-affiliated parties, is part of the broad-based government.
“I am saying ODM, UDA and other Kenya Kwanza-affiliated parties are in the broad-based government, and it is not possible for ODM now to say they are not in government; that cannot be understood,” the Lands CS stated.
Does Raila Odinga have plan B ahead of the 2027 poll
Wahome’s remarks come amid emerging divisions within the ODM party over Raila’s agreement with President William Ruto.
On Saturday, May 17, Raila fueled speculation about holding a secret strategy ahead of the 2027 polls by publicly distancing himself from allies, including his own brother, regarding the details of his deal with Ruto.
The former prime minister dismissed claims, including those from his brother Oburu Odinga, that ODM was part of the government.
Despite signing the agreement with Ruto in March, many expected Raila to actively support the government.
However, sources indicate the veteran politician may be playing a high-stakes game, holding a secret advantage that could shift the political balance in his favour.
