Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is on a collision course with the state as the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen issued a warning against his recent remarks, which have been widely condemned as incitement.

Murkomen has declared that Gachagua is not above the law and would be arrested and jailed if he continues to incite Kenyans or threaten national peace.

“Let that man continue making noise and inciting Kenyans. We will arrest him. From today, we will monitor all your meetings, day and night,” he warned.

“There are people threatening us. They think they are above the law and cannot be arrested or jailed. Under our watch, this country is not going to condone anybody who wants to burn it. We are going to do everything under the sun to make this country safe.”

The CS emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring a peaceful and stable transition and would not tolerate political actors fueling division and unrest. He urged Kenyans to reject inflammatory rhetoric and remain focused on unity.

The warning comes in the wake of Gachagua’s controversial statements alluding to possible chaos if the 2027 General Election is rigged a comment that drew sharp backlash from President Ruto’s allies.

Murkomen was emphatic that no individual, regardless of status or former position, would be spared if found inciting violence.

He directed county security teams to crack down on politicians involved in incitement, violence, and ethnic divisions.
