Today, 14th May 2025, there was heated drama during Senate proceedings when Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale clashed with Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei.
The session, which was supposed to focus on national security matters, turned chaotic after Duale made strong remarks aimed at Cherargei.
While speaking during the session, Duale refused to take any questions or advice from Cherargei. He said loudly, “I can’t take advice from Cherargei.
He is a fool!” The strong words shocked many in the room and caused murmurs among senators.
The disagreement started when Cherargei tried to question Duale on matters relating to the Kenya Defence Forces and their recent operations.
Duale, visibly irritated, dismissed Cherargei’s concerns and instead turned personal, calling the senator unfit to give him advice.
Security officers and other senators had to calm the situation to allow the session to continue. Speaker Amason Kingi was forced to remind all members to maintain order and respect during proceedings.
Outside the chambers, reactions from the public and leaders came fast.
One Nairobi resident, Mercy Wambui, said, “Leaders should solve their issues respectfully. We are watching them to lead by example.”
Another social media user, Kevin Otieno, wrote, “This is not how leaders behave. Name-calling in Senate is shameful. Duale should apologize.”
This incident adds to growing tensions in the government, with some officials blaming each other in public.
Kenyans are now waiting to see if there will be any disciplinary action taken against Duale or if the issue will be swept under the carpet.
Many are also calling for leaders to focus on important national matters instead of personal fights.
