Cracks in Opposition as Gachagua Doubts Matiang’i Bid, “He’s Not Ready for Presidency”

Former DP Rigathi Gachagua has cast doubts on former CS Fred Matiang’i preparedness to be the next presidential candidate in 2027.

Speaking on Monday during an interview with Gusii radio stations, Gachagua said he was not yet convinced that Matiang’i is ready to lead the opposition team and be their presidential candidate in 2027, despite receiving a huge reception in Kisii recently.

According to Gachagua, Matiang’i has not demonstrated that he has fully rallied Kisii community behind him and that he still has a lot to convince them. He said after his huge reception, matiang’i has not convinced elders and young leaders who are still insulting him to rally behind his candidature.

“I really doubt if Matiang’i has been accepted. I saw Governor Simba Arati accompanying him when he stormed Kisii, but days later, he asked Matiang’i to go back and support Raila Odinga. I want to tell my friend Arati not to take the Gusii community to Raila. Why are you asking him to go back to a broker who has betrayed the community? I have doubts about that. Also, these small boys, MP Osoro and Nyakundi have been insulting Matiang’i in Kisii, are there no elders to call these leaders and ask them to respect Matiang’i? Why are the leaders silent? That brings the question, is Matiang’i really accepted by the Gusii community? Is he really enjoying the goodwill of the community? Gusii must first convince us that Matiang’i has been accepted and that nobody will insult him at their watch. Why are the community allowing these young leaders to insult Matiang’i?” posed Gachagua

He said Gusii leaders should summon young leaders and warn him against insulting Fred Matiang’i for him to be respected at the table and even have a chance to vie for presidency in 2027.

He said Matiang’i will only succeed if he brings together Kisii region and have a saying at the table of the opposition team. He brided himself, claiming he had succeeded in bringing together Mt Kenya residents and that he is currently their leader. He said Matiang’i should also have Gusii region party so that he can ve respected at the table.

He said anybody who speaks ill of him in Mt Kenya is having a rough time, adding that he is currently the region’s spokesperson.
