Robert Alai has alleged that Cabinet Secretary Ali Hassan Joho was shot by his own bodyguard while in Migori. The Orange Democratic Movement Member of County Assembly said the shooting was not made public immediately.
According to Alai, the incident was first linked to political rivalries in the area. He said Obado was initially blamed before facts on the shooting began to emerge.
The MCA said the bodyguard involved was not properly trained to handle a weapon. He added that this was not the first time Joho had been shot in unclear circumstances.
Alai mentioned that some officers assigned to protect leaders have not gone through proper arms training. He said many of them last handled firearms during their time in college.

The Kileleshwa MCA made the claims while reacting to the murder of Migori Member of Parliament John Were. He suggested that Were’s case may also involve failure by assigned bodyguards.
The claims by Alai have shifted focus to the training and conduct of security teams guarding public figures. He linked Joho’s incident to other similar cases involving poor handling of firearms.
In a separate case, John Munyes was also allegedly shot by his bodyguards under questionable circumstances. Alai said these repeated incidents point to a deep problem in how VIP protection is managed.
Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula has also raised concerns about the training of police officers attached to leaders. He asked Parliament to work with relevant departments to solve the security challenges.
Wetang’ula said the officers must be well prepared to protect the lives of the leaders they are assigned to. His statement came after several leaders expressed concern over their safety.
Joho has not issued a statement on the shooting claim made by Robert Alai. However, the allegations have added pressure on authorities to look into the safety of senior government officials.
