Jubilee secretary general Jeremiah Kioni has weighed in on the surprising moment President William Ruto was struck by a flying shoe in Migori county.

Did shoe incident result from anger with Ruto?
In an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke, Kioni said the incident in which Ruto was struck by a shoe, underscores the growing frustration Kenyans have with the administration.

“It’s not about hating the person, but about rejecting what they’ve done and fearing what they might do next. The fear is gone, and we saw that reach its peak in Migori with the shoe incident. People are that frustrated,” Kioni added.
Kioni suggested that Kenyans have lost faith in Ruto’s government. He expressed no doubt that the current administration would fail to deliver, citing his concerns starting from the moment the regime took power in 2022.
Kioni further confirmed his lack of confidence in Ruto’s regime, claiming many of its leaders have previously held public office and failed to deliver.
He also mentioned that his criticism of Ruto had put him at odds with some Kenyans, who insulted and labelled him.
“At one point, I was called a “Mugoroki ‘ (mad person) for just saying that Ruto will not take us anywhere…We also had the 2007, 1997 and 1992 tribal clashes. Some of the individuals in UDA participated in such clashes. For that reason, it was easy to predict where we are likely to be 5-10 years from now,” Kioni added.
Kuria East MP says shoe was thrown out of excitement
However, Kuria East MP Marwa Maisori offered a contrasting view on the shoe-throwing incident, characterising it as an outburst of youthful enthusiasm.

On Tuesday, May 6, Maisori spoke about the event, labelling it as unfortunate but rejecting any political motivations behind it.
He cautioned against turning the incident into a political issue, stressing the risks of spreading false information.
Maisori further highlighted that the country nearly faced turmoil due to misinformation and clarified that the incident was a mishap, not a deliberate assault.
He also noted that such behaviour is unacceptable in Kuria.
How was Ruto hit by shoe?
On Sunday, May 4, Ruto, who was praising local farmers and discussing fertiliser costs, was briefly interrupted when a shoe was thrown in his direction.
Remaining calm, he proceeded with his speech as security personnel swiftly intervened, detaining several individuals at the scene.
Although Ruto called for their release, police later confirmed to TUKO.co.ke that three people were arrested in connection with the incident.
Authorities were investigating the possibility of a political motive, suggesting that rival Members of Parliament was involved.
