Wives Of Slain MP Were Display Unity, Grace While Hosting Political Leaders At Their Karen Home

As the nation continues to mourn the tragic death of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, scenes of unity and resilience were witnessed on Tuesday, May, 6th, as preparations for his final rites resumes.The late MP’s wives, Margaret and Anne, received political leaders and mourners at their Kasipul home, expressing both sorrow and strength in a time of deep grief.

Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula led a delegation of lawmakers to view the MP’s body at Lee Funeral Home, paying their last respects to a colleague whose death has sent shockwaves through the political landscape.

During Governor Gladys Wanga’s visit to the family home, Anne Were, the MP’s second wife, was visibly emotional as the magnitude of the loss became overwhelming.

Meanwhile, Margaret Were addressed mourners with heartfelt words, revealing her fears for her safety following her husband’s brutal killing.

Governor Wanga, while addressing the public on Tuesday, strongly condemned any attempts to disrupt the burial scheduled for Friday, May 9.She called for calm and a dignified send-off, urging residents to respect the grieving process.

She also praised President William Ruto for ordering immediate investigations into the MP’s murder and expressed hope for swift justice.

“This is a difficult time for Homa Bay. We mourn a leader and a son of our county,” Wanga said. “But we must do so with dignity and restraint.”

Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johannsen Oduor confirmed that Were died from massive bleeding after sustaining five gunshot wounds.
