Change of Tune?; James Orengo Writes To President Ruto Seeking a Meeting on This

Siaya Governor James Orengo has written to President William Ruto seeking a meeting to discuss development issues affecting Siaya County.

In a letter dated April 17, 2025, Orengo proposed a consultative forum involving cabinet secretaries, MPs, county assembly leaders, and his executive to engage the President on key projects and explore collaboration between the county and national government. He emphasized the need for unity and inclusivity in service delivery.

Despite being a vocal critic of Ruto and a strong ODM loyalist, Orengo expressed willingness to engage constructively for the benefit of Siaya residents. He included a list of ongoing national projects and those requiring support.

Orengo’s approach his shift towards pragmatic politics, though he maintained that he is not a praise singer and upholds the freedom to speak openly. Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi also assured Ruto of the region’s support for the broader government agenda, despite internal ODM dissent over its relationship with the ruling UDA Party.
