In his speech, Raila advised Kenyan youths on how to create wealth despite the challenges in the society.
The former prime minister urged youths to develop the culture of saving, arguing it’s one of the best ways to create wealth.
“Saving is very important in terms of wealth creation. When you save, you can be able to invest. You must make a deliberate effort to break that poverty cycle so that we develop as a society. We need to think outside the box,” Raila said.
The veteran opposition politician used the analogy of the vicious cycle of poverty to emphasise the importance of adopting a savings culture.
“There’s what we call the vicious cycle of poverty. It goes like this: I am poor, and because I am poor, I cannot save. And if I can’t save, I cannot invest. Since I cannot invest, I cannot create wealth. Hence, I remain poor. And the cycle continues,” he stated.
The former prime minister stressed the importance of taking deliberate action to disrupt this cycle, noting the importance of encouraging saving habits.
