In the upcoming days, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is anticipated to convene a crisis conference to address the recent actions of Siaya Governor James Orengo and to make clear the party’s official stance on the ongoing political negotiations between ODM leader Raila Odinga and President William Ruto.

This follows Orengo’s open criticism of ODM’s backing of the BBG, which caused a rift and confusion inside the party. Many people felt that his comments, which he made at the funeral of Raila’s longtime bodyguard George Oduor, went against the party line.

His remarks have sparked intense discussion; although some party members have backed his right to free speech, others have called for his discipline.

The leadership wants to put everything “in black and white” and resolve the internal conflicts once and for all, according to a senior ODM official who confirmed the scheduled meeting.

Dennis Onyango, a spokesman for Raila, also asked participants to maintain composure and civility throughout the current talks. All eyes are now on the party’s top organ as it gets ready to make a significant decision, with some even speculating about a potential expulsion.
