Preachers led Chebukati’s family out of the venue of the service to the burial place nearby.
Chebukati’s sons and other family members followed the preachers while carrying his casket.
Security was tight to ensure things ran smoothly, and several plainclothes officers, including those from the presidential unit, were at hand.
After being secured on the Mercedes limousine hearse, it was driven a short distance to his grave.
A gate and fence were set up around the burial site to block unauthorised access.
Chebukati’s dad, in a wheelchair, was at the front of the clerics as they led the procession.
Ruto and the widow, Mary Wanyonyi, sat in a tent close to the grave.
The coffin, draped in a white cloth, was placed on top of the mechanism that would lower it into the grave. Several elders were on hand to witness the burial.
The preachers then said a prayer for Chebukati’s soul, and thanked Him for a smooth burial.
Another preacher read Revelation 21:4 which says:
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”
The preacher then instructed the pallbearers to lower the body.
The widow was then summoned to the gravesite alongside her family to throw soil into the grave.
She breathed deeply, overcome by emotions as one of her sons held her hand.
Ruto and other leaders then threw soil into the grave after. Wreaths were laid on top of the grave.
