Opinion: Kante to Replace Enzo, Zakaria Ready to Accept Wage Cut, and Gallagher Demands New Contract

Graham Potter will have to make very brave decisions in the closing weeks of the league campaign and that involves choosing between Enzo Fernandez and Ngolo Kante to start. It is worth mentioning that Chelsea are still in the Champions League and also en route to finishing in European places in the Premier League. For that reason, there is need for Graham Potter to rotate his squad which is why a choice must be made between prioritizing Kante or Enzo Fernandez.

“Potter is clearly between a hard place and a rock at the moment. Chelsea need all the firepower that they have within their grasp with Kante being a key player in the last phase of the league. His return will surely force Enzo to firm his roots in the starting eleven. His quality on the pitch is expected to shoot up,” predicted Ian Baker.

Another defensive midfielder making waves in the Chelsea squad is Denis Zakaria. The Swiss international is still figuring his place at Chelsea at the moment but it is crystal clear that he wants to make his move permanent. The hot situation at Juventus does not seem ideal to his career at the moment and there is a big chance that if he returns to Turin, he might be relegated to a smaller club. He is ready for a wage cut to stay at Chelsea.

My opinion

Speaking of wages, inside sources at the club have disclosed that Conor Gallagher is aiming to twist Chelsea’s arm in his new contract. The midfielder has 18 months left in his current contract, which means that it is imperative for the club to extend it as soon as the summer or else they will lose the player for free. Because of this, Gallagher is confident that he will earn a huge raise in wages.

Matteo Kovacic’s future at the club is in the balance at the moment. The club is not quite settled on how they want the Croatian to stay at the club through to next season. Already a number of clubs have shown immense interest in signing him which explains why he has not demanded for a new contract. The next few months are going to be very crucial.
