The National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), is a health insurance cover that always make sure all citizens who have it get affordable and quality health services in different health facilities across the country. Upon registering for the health cover, there is always a monthly payment to make the NHIF card active so that you can use it whenever you want. However, there are penalties incurred when one does not pay the monthly amount needed to make the NHIF card active.
If you incur such penalties, this is how you can settle them using your MPESA account:
1. On your phone, find the MPESA application then go to the MPESA menu.
2. Click on the lipa na MPESA then Pay Bill.
3. On the NHIF Business Number, enter 200222.
4. On the Account Number, enter your National Identification Card number then at the end of the number, add the letter ‘y’. For example, 22445566y.
5. For every month defaulted, you should enter KES 250. For example, enter KES 750 if you have defaulted for 3 months.
6. Enter your PIN number.
7. After a short while, you will receive a confirmation message from the NHIF that you have successfully paid the penalty penalty.
However, it is worth noting that penalties are only surcharged to self-employed members.
