Africa is fast developing hence a need to put up ultra-modern means of transport in the continent. As far back as the 1960s, architects of African integration agreed that building infrastructure was vital to lubricate the wheels of intra-African trade and distribute its benefits regionally.
The continent’s leaders embarked on ambitious projects such as the trans-African highways segments of which would eventually stretch from Cairo to Dakar, Tripoli to Windhoek and Lagos to Mombasa.
These would provide access to the sea to 15 landlocked countries and improve regional links
We have witnessed trillions of money being spent on infrastructure and mostly on the tarmacking of roads.
If you commute to work in or near a large city, there’s a good chance you have to pay a toll of some sort. Some roads are more expensive in terms of construction than others.
Can you name the most costly road in the world?
Odds are you’ll be surprised by the answer.
The most expensive road in the world is in Africa especially in East Africa, Uganda; Entebbe Expressway. The construction of the highway is costing a whopping U.S.$476 million, with a shocking cost of U.S.$9.2 million per kilometer over and above the average $2 million per kilometer road, local media reports.
This, at a cost of US$476 million puts the cost per kilometer at US$9.27 million which is higher than the above noted most expensive four-lane expressway at US$7,819,495 per kilometer.
This makes the Entebbe expressway the costliest among low to middle-income countries on which this data was based but does not confirm whether the same applies in other countries around the world.
