Engineer Duncan Machuka was on Saturday, February 26th, awarded by Dr. Ruben West, the special ICN envoy at Karmel Park Kisii in recognition of his transformational leadership that embraces community service.
I change nations (ICN) is a Global community whose presence is in over 155 countries worldwide. It aims at bringing back the lost honor by recognizing the work of those in service based on the golden rule: Do unto others what you expect to be done unto you. It was founded by Dr. Clyde Rivers of the USA.
Engineer Duncan Machuka is a Dynamic, Visionary, and transformational leader.
A registered Engineer working with Kenya power, an electricity supply utility in the Republic of Kenya as a County Business Manager in Nyeri County-Kenya, in the same capacity he has handled this critical docket in Kisii and Nyamira Counties.
Engineer Machuka has been credited for spearheading the last miles electricity Program that aimed at ensuring every household in Kenya has electricity.
His work was particularly transformational during the Covid-19 pandemic when electricity was one of the critical utilities not only at home but also in urban centers.
Security was tagged along with electricity and slowly people moved from workspaces to working from home where electricity was a key component.
Working closely with the two levels of Government and its stakeholders, Engineer Machuka diligently delivered to the expectation of the people.
Engineer Machuka says, the awakening to serve the community was born in him when he started working with KPLC. He realized how critical electricity was for any country to achieve sustainable socio-economic development.

For stellar delivery, there was a need for continuous community and stakeholder engagements.
Eng. Machuka visits grassroots to engage the community on electrification matters, this way he can identify the need.
Electricity is associated with disaster. To mitigate this, he leads his team in doing community sensitization on precautionary measures.
With emerging cases of vandalism that slows our economy, he continuously engages local leadership on the need to support the protection of these critical assets.
Engineer Machuka is a role model and mentor to many. Growing up in the Gusii community, there was a narrative on two careers being the best, training as a Doctor or a Teacher. To counter this, he visits schools to mentor the young ones on the various career options available, the need to prepare early, and largely to work hard and achieve their dreams.
Engineer Machuka has several needy students that he sponsors through paying school fees and other necessities so that they can achieve their education.
He is a member of the round table wellness club in Kisii, a platform he uses to give his voice on mental health issues, especially in men. This was in a bid to address the many rising men suicide cases in Gusii region.
He has from time to time participated in many tree planting activities to increase the tree cover in Kisii and largely called on people to embrace indigenous trees that are environmentally friendly.
Eng. Machuka has a bachelor’s degree in Technology, Electrical and Communications Engineering from Moi University, an MBA in Project Management From Kenyatta University, and is currently a PhD student at Jomo JKUAT university.
He is a registered Graduate engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), Institute of Engineers Kenya(IEK), and also a registered Electrician with the Energy, Petroleum regulatory Authority (EPRA).
About this award, Eng. Machuka Says it is a call to action for him to do more. He believes that community engagement and service are an opportunity to achieve Sustainable development.
He was amazed by the dedication of the ICN team led by Dr. Ruben West, the ICN special envoy, they traveled from the USA to bring back the art of honor in Gusii land.
