Renowned actress Tommy Dorman and her husband Peter Zurkuhlen have decided to go separate ways after being married for five years.
Tommy Dorfman calls it quits after five years of marriage
Tommy who recently came out as a transgender woman and asked to be referred to as a woman did not disclose the main reason why she was splitting with her husband.
People Magazine reported Zurkuhlen, 33, filed for divorce from Dorfman, 29, in a Los Angeles court on Tuesday as the two have chosen to redefine their relationship as friends.
The actress and her husband first met through a mutual friend in 2005. After getting engaged in 2015, they wedded in Portland, Maine in 2016.
Tommy Dorfman’s coming out
Tommy came out as a transgender woman after explaining that she was privately living as a woman for a year.
“I view today as a reintroduction to me as a woman, having made a transition medically. Coming out is always viewed as this grand reveal, but I was never not out. Today is about clarity: I am a trans woman. My pronouns are she/her. My name is Tommy,” he said.
The celebrity also explained that she has never felt safe talking about her coming out, but she did it regardless.
she added that she understood the transition as a beautiful thing and wanted the world to see what it looks like.
“So I kept, on Instagram, a diaristic time capsule instead—one that shows a body living in a more fluid space. I’m not changing my name. I’m named after my mom’s brother, who passed a month after I was born, and I feel very connected to that name, to an uncle who held me as he was dying. This is an evolution of Tommy. I’m becoming more Tommy,” she added.
