On January 27, 2026, the Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, paid a working visit to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources as part of efforts to enhance the accessibility of the Presidency to all.

In her remarks, the Vice President noted that the visit was one of several planned visits to various ministries, emphasising that its purpose was to assess performance and foster coordination between her office and the Ministry.

The sector minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, briefed the Vice President on the Ministry’s mandate, the agencies under its purview, and the challenges he inherited as Minister.

GIADEC secures strategic investors for VALCO modernisation and alumina refinery project

In outlining steps taken to address these challenges, the Minister discussed plans to modernise and revive VALCO.

He revealed that efforts are underway to ensure VALCO provides maximum benefits to Ghanaians, reiterating the company’s potential as a pillar for driving Ghana’s industrialisation.

The minister said, “VALCO is a quiet lion that can change our country. We have big plans for its revival.”

His statement comes weeks after a 12-member inter-ministerial committee, inaugurated in November 2025 to identify a strategic investor for VALCO, submitted its report to the Minister.

The modernisation of VALCO is a key component of GIADEC’s strategy to establish a fully integrated aluminum industry in Ghana, in line with national industrial transformation objectives.

The project is expected to revitalize VALCO, enhance its annual production capacity, safeguard existing jobs, and generate thousands of new direct and indirect employment opportunities for Ghanaians, thereby restoring VALCO’s prominence and contributing to Ghana’s long-term economic prosperity.
