Semenyo celebrating with teammates

Ghana international Antoine Semenyo continued his impressive start at Manchester City, getting on the scoresheet once more as Pep Guardiola’s men eased to a comfortable home win on Saturday.

City hosted bottom-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Etihad Stadium in Round 23 of the Premier League, and the contest was effectively settled early. Just six minutes in, Egypt forward Omar Marmoush, fresh from Africa Cup of Nations duty, broke the deadlock with a sharp opener that put the champions firmly in control.

The hosts dominated possession and tempo throughout the first half, pinning Wolves back and creating a series of chances. As the visitors appeared set to reach the interval trailing by only a single goal, Semenyo struck to extend City’s advantage. The former AFC Bournemouth forward found the net in the 45th minute, sealing a 2–0 victory.

The result trimmed City’s deficit to league leaders Arsenal to four points, ahead of the Gunners’ clash with Manchester United on Sunday.

Semenyo’s strike was particularly significant, marking his first Premier League goal for Manchester City. He had earlier announced himself in City colours with goals in the FA Cup against Exeter City and the Carabao Cup versus Newcastle United.

Now with three goals in four appearances for the club, the 26-year-old is enjoying a flying start and will be keen to maintain his momentum when City welcome Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League midweek, before travelling to face Tottenham Hotspur in their next league fixture.
