Accra, Jan. 22, GNA – About 70,000 persons applied for the current recruitment exercise of the Ghana Prisons Service (GPS).

Successful applicants received text messages and commenced the second phase of screening after completing the online application in the first stage.

The phase two screening involved physical assessment, vital checks, and records validation.

Alhaji Issaku Yahaya, Director of Human Resource at the GPS, disclosed this when Mr Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, Minister of the Interior, visited a Ghana Prisons Service Recruitment Screening Centre in Accra.

He said the second phase of the recruitment exercise had so far been successful across screening centres nationwide.

Alhaji Yahaya said the second phase, which began on January 19, had ended in most regions, except the Greater Accra and Ashanti Regions, due to the large number of applicants.

“So far, the process has been transparent and smooth. We have not encountered any problems. The process is orderly and does not take more than 30 minutes for applicants to complete,” he said.

Alhaji Yahaya said the next phase would be an online aptitude test for applicants who successfully passed the screening stage.

Mr Mohammed-Mubarak commended the recruitment process and cautioned applicants against fraudsters who promised recruitment slots.

He stressed that recruitment into the Service was free and merit-based and advised applicants not to pay money to anyone for enlistment.

“The process is increasingly digital, including online tests, to reduce human interference. As a Ministry, we will ensure that the process remains transparent and open to all.

“I urge applicants to remain vigilant, trust the process and avoid falling victim to recruitment scams,” he added,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of the Interior announced the commencement of recruitment into four major security agencies in November 2025.

In a statement issued by the Ministry, applications were opened from November 15 to December 15, 2025, for enlistment into the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Immigration Service.

The nationwide recruitment exercise was part of efforts to strengthen internal security, enhance public safety, and improve service delivery across the agencies.
