Teacher Buries His Wife, Goes to School, Comes Back in the Evening Finds In-laws Took His Kids

A Kenyan high school teacher says he has not seen his two young daughters since his wife’s wealthy family took charge of her burial and the children after her death in a road accident.

The man, who asked not to be named, shared his story online.

“I haven’t seen my daughters since then. I was told the sister took them to the USA with her,” he wrote.

He said his wife died on the spot last year while travelling to Nairobi for a US embassy interview.

The teacher said he knew nothing about the trip and only learnt of it after the accident.

“I didn’t even know she was going to the embassy,” he said.

He described a marriage that had been under strain for some time.

According to him, his wife came from a wealthy family, and tensions grew after her sisters moved to the United States.

He alleged that they told her he was holding her back, and said the family had started processing documents for her to join them abroad.

When her relatives announced they would handle the burial, he went to court to bury the woman he had spent six years with.

The couple had two daughters, then aged five and two. The case lasted six months.

He said his in-laws argued that he had not paid dowry and therefore had no legal claim.

The teacher said he presented evidence that the couple had lived together as a family. The court nonetheless ruled in favour of his wife’s relatives, he said.

They buried her and took the children. He said he lost his wife, her burial and his daughters within a few months.

The teacher said he is slowly recovering with the support of his parents. “I will rise again and probably get married again,” he said.
