Four killed, three injured as bus collides with trailer in UP’s Ambedkar Nagar
At least four passengers were killed and three others seriously injured after a Volvo bus collided head-on with a trailer on the Gorakhpur Link Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Ambedkar Nagar district early Friday, police said.
The accident occurred around 5.30 a.m. near kilometre 85 of the expressway under Jaitpur police station. Local residents rushed to the spot after the collision and alerted the police, who launched a rescue operation with their help.
Additional Superintendent of Police Dr Tejveer Singh said the police received information about the accident through UP-112 at around 5.30 a.m.
According to Singh, the injured passengers were initially taken to a Community Health Centre for treatment. Four passengers were declared dead during treatment, while three others were referred to Medical College Sadarpur for further medical attention.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the bus belonged to Tegra Express and was travelling from Delhi to Darbhanga in Bihar.
Police suspect that the bus driver may have dozed off while driving, leading to the collision with the trailer. The exact circumstances of the accident are yet to be established.
Police have begun an investigation and are working to ascertain the identities of the deceased and injured passengers.
The accident comes weeks after another fatal bus incident in Uttar Pradesh. In September, nine people were killed after a bus caught fire in the Jewar police station area of Greater Noida. Around 30 people were evacuated from the vehicle.
