Goods Transporters Announce Nationwide Wheel-Jam Strike from October 10

The decision was taken during a meeting of the association in Lahore, chaired by President Nabil Mahmood Tariq. Senior Vice President Haji Irfan Sultan, Vice President Mumtaz Ali Khan, Mirza Arshad Iqbal and other office-bearers attended the meeting.

The association called on the government to provide relief in accordance with its Charter of Demand and immediately release containers seized during protests and sit-ins.

Transporters also demanded compensation of Rs20,000 and Rs35,000 for those affected, while calling for an end to the practice of stopping and fining vehicles over sales tax invoices.

A reduction in diesel prices was also among the association’s key demands.

The transporters urged both federal and provincial governments to fulfil commitments they said were made during their previous strike.

The association warned that if its demands were not accepted and relief was not provided, goods transport operations would be completely suspended across Pakistan from October 10.
