‘Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest’ release date announced

The first movie set in the Game of Thrones universe is scheduled to hit theaters on June 6, 2029.

Owen Harris, who has worked on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will direct the film from a screenplay by Beau Willimon.

Plot details remain limited, but the movie is expected to explore the story of Aegon I Targaryen, the founder of the Targaryen dynasty and the ruler who conquered much of Westeros.

The story takes place several centuries before the events of the original Game of Thrones series.

Aegon I has never appeared on screen, and casting details for the role have not yet been revealed.

His conquest is an important part of Westerosi history, as it established the Targaryen dynasty that would eventually produce characters including Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke in the original series.

Harris is an executive producer on HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and has directed several episodes of the series.

His other credits include episodes of Black Mirror, the 2019 The Twilight Zone revival and Brave New World.

Willimon, meanwhile, previously served as showrunner of House of Cards and worked as a writer on Disney+’s Andor.

The upcoming movie will expand a franchise that has already produced multiple television projects.

The original Game of Thrones, based on George R.R. Martin’s bestselling fantasy novels, ran for eight seasons from 2011 to 2019 and became one of HBO’s most successful series.

The Targaryen family later became the focus of House of the Dragon, while A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms explores another period in Westeros history.
