Mercy Johnson Bows To Pressure, Drops Charges Against TikToker

Popular Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, has dropped all charges against TikTok content creator, Eedie Bliss, leading to the latter’s release from police detention on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

The TikToker regained her freedom after days in custody, following intense public pressure and widespread condemnation of her arrest across social media platforms.

Naija News reports that the decision to discontinue the case came hours after controversial social media critic, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, publicly accused the actress of oppression and misuse of police powers.

VeryDarkMan had argued that the allegations levelled against Eedie Bliss bordered on defamation, which he described as a civil matter rather than a criminal offence.

Joining other Nigerians in calling for the TikToker’s release, the activist issued a public ultimatum to the actress, warning that the continued detention of the content creator could further damage her public image.

A few hours after his intervention, VeryDarkMan confirmed the release of Eedie Bliss in a post shared on his Instagram page, thanking the actress for withdrawing the case.

“@MercyJohnsonOkojie, thank you very much, my GREATEST OF ALL TIME, for dropping the case. Moving on, I am buying all defamation cases against Mercy Johnson and her family. The bullying is too much. You all should leave her family alone,” he wrote.

Naija News understands that Eedie Bliss was arrested several days ago over a video she posted on TikTok in December 2025, which made allegations against Mercy Johnson and her husband, Prince Henry Okojie.

In the video, the TikTok creator alleged that Prince Okojie had recently purchased a house for a pregnant woman she described as his mistress.

Quoting a popular blog, Cutie Juls, as her source, Eedie Bliss further alleged that the actress connived with the woman’s house help to cause a miscarriage, claims that sparked outrage and prompted legal action.

While many Nigerians welcomed the TikToker’s release, others have continued to debate the growing trend of using law enforcement agencies in disputes involving online defamation.

As of the time of filing this report, Mercy Johnson and her legal team have not issued a formal public statement on the withdrawal of the charges.
