‘If You Call Me Brother, I Will Deal With You’ – Senior Military Officer’s Warning to Younger Brother

A senior officer of the Ghana Armed Forces has cautioned his younger brother, who recently graduated as a private soldier, against allowing their family relationship to interfere with military discipline.

The warning was issued after the newly enlisted soldier, Private Entsie, took part in his passing-out ceremony.

A video recorded after the event showed the new recruit observing the appropriate military protocol when he encountered his senior brother before rejoining other family members.

The senior officer reminded him that joining the military meant he was now expected to follow the same rules and standards as every other service member, regardless of their relationship outside the service.

He stressed that the soldier should not expect preferential treatment because they are brothers and must maintain the required military protocol whenever they meet in an official setting.

The officer also warned his younger brother against using their relationship as a reason to avoid his responsibilities or disregard instructions from his superiors.

He urged him to carry out his duties as required, comply with orders and maintain the discipline expected of members of the Ghana Armed Forces.

The senior officer further made it clear that their relationship as brothers should not affect the way the younger soldier responds to him while on duty.

He explained that military protocol requires the newly enlisted soldier to address him appropriately rather than using informal family terms.

He also cautioned the soldier not to invoke their family connection when required to report for duty, participate in assigned activities or respond to military commands.

“There is nothing like brothers in the military. Do whatever the military is asking you to do. Make sure you comply with orders. When I call you, you respond, ‘Sir.’ If you don’t know and you call me ‘bro,’ I will deal with you. Do you understand?

“Make sure you do not take me as an excuse. When they call, ‘Fall in,’ don’t use me as an excuse. Do you understand?” he said.
