Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Emmanuel Victor Smith, has revealed that Ghanaian authorities have not yet made contact with Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, the former CEO of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), who is currently detained at the Nevada Southern Detention Centre.

Speaking on TV3 KeyPoints on Saturday, January 17, 2026, he said his team at the embassy is working to establish contact and offer any assistance she may need.

“Not yet. Nevada is about five and a half hours away from Washington. I am trying to get my officers to see if we can make contact or visit with her,” he stated.

He also noted that he has no information about her legal representatives in the United States.

“Not at all, I don’t have that information regarding her lawyers and who is representing her,” he added.

Victor Smith explained that once contact is made, the embassy will determine whether she requires any support or assistance.

Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu was sentenced in absentia in April 2024 to 10 years in prison with hard labour by an Accra High Court.

She was convicted on 78 counts, including causing financial loss to the state, stealing, money laundering, conspiracy to steal, and contravening public procurement laws.

Her former operations manager, Daniel Axim, also received a five-year jail term.
