‘Drama as Woman Watches Footage of House Girl Doing This When She is Alone in Disbelief

Kenyans online are chuckling over a CCTV clip that shows a newly hired househelp enjoying an unsupervised moment in her employer’s living room.

The homeowner shared the footage on Instagram with the caption: “Housegirl wetu mpya hajui kuna CCTV camera ndani,” meaning the new housegirl does not know there is a camera inside.

The grainy recording appears to have been taken in a family living room. It shows the woman perching on top of the household’s Wi-Fi router.

She then climbs onto the sofas, where she dances lightly and paces across them. After stepping down, she breaks into another short dance.

Throughout the clip, she stays glued to her phone, apparently chatting or scrolling without a care. The video has racked up thousands of views since it was posted.

It fits a popular genre of “caught on camera” content on African social media, where homeowners share moments their domestic workers do not know were recorded.

Unlike in many such posts, viewers did not express outrage. Many rushed to the househelp’s defence, treating the footage as a relatable snapshot of someone enjoying a rare moment of freedom.

One commenter, @Mofi, wrote: “All I see is someone happy. I can’t see anything wrong.”

Another, @Brighti, suggested she was “in love, probably with a new person.”

A third, @Emrah, guessed that her lover is probably a boda boda rider and that the two were on the phone talking about their lives together.

The identities of the homeowner and the househelp have not been made public.
