Nairobi: A Man Commits Suicide After Gen Z Wife He Educated In University Dumps Him Upon Graduation

A 54-year-old man from Korogocho in Nairobi has reportedly died by suicide, with those close to him linking his death to a combination of emotional heartbreak and financial strain.

Patrick Steve Odhiambo was said to have spent years supporting his younger fiancée, identified as Wambui, who was in her twenties.According to people who knew him, he covered her university fees, rent and daily upkeep for years while living modestly himself, hoping the two would eventually settle down together once she completed her studies.

Friends say the relationship ended shortly after Wambui graduated.

A note allegedly left by Odhiambo suggested that she ended things with him, reportedly telling him he was too old, lacked sufficient education and did not match her social standing, before allegedly moving on to a new relationship with a younger man.

In the note, Odhiambo reportedly lamented the sacrifices he had made for her, including relying on affordable mobile financing options to keep up with her college expenses despite his own limited means.Those who knew him described him as a quiet, hard-working man who had invested heavily, both emotionally and financially, in the relationship, with many expressing shock at the circumstances surrounding his death.
