Nigerian forces under Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised eight suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in a precision air strike in the Timbuktu Triangle, Borno State.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the development on Wednesday via his X handle, noting that the strike was carried out at about 9:56 p.m. on August 18, 2026, after credible intelligence revealed the presence of ISWAP fighters at Thethangala.

A Guardian aircraft reportedly identified eight terrorists preparing to launch an attack on Nigerian troops before engaging them in a precision strike.

“Battle Damage Assessment shows all the terrorists neutralised, with no further movement observed after the strike,” the report stated.

The Timbuktu Triangle remains a key operational zone for ISWAP, where insurgents attempt to regroup and target military positions.

The strike forms part of ongoing coordinated ground and air operations aimed at dismantling terrorist formations and logistics networks.

Military authorities said the general security situation in the North-East remains calm but unpredictable, with troops maintaining strong morale and operational efficiency.

The latest strike underscores intensified efforts to disrupt insurgent movements and prevent planned attacks on military formations and surrounding communities.
