Ghanaian Content Creator, Scanty, has lashed out at the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the party’s inability to implement its 2024 National Youth Manifesto promises.

This commentary came in after the Chief Executive Officer of Youth Employment Agency, Malik Basintale, indicated that the NDC government has implemented all the promises stated in their manifesto, compared to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) when in office.

He announced that the National Democratic Congress will “go back to the drawing board” to develop a second youth manifesto for implementation before the end of President John Mahama’s current term.

Speaking at the NDC Western Regional Youth Conference organised by the Takoradi Technical University’s Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) wing, Basintale said the party is preparing to build on what he described as the full delivery of its first youth-focused manifesto within one year of taking office.

Meanwhile, Content Creator Scanty as well as some Ghanaians on social media disagree with that assertion.

Scanty wrote, “After reading the Manifesto, I can tell you they haven’t even delivered half of what they promised the youth.”

He listed some of the unfulfilled promises such as “the 24-Hour Economy (1 job, 3 shifts, 3 people), Ensure the six-month rent policy, Free Wi-Fi in all tertiary institutions, Rewards and incentives for health workers who accept postings to rural communities.

Other promises include “Completing and expanding E-Blocks in schools to boost infrastructure, Introducing the BED FOR ALL programme to address the accommodation crisis on campuses, Free sanitary pads for all senior high school (SHS) female students, Introducing JOBS4YOU to create employment opportunities, and Introducing a National Sexual Harassment Policy.”

Also, “Improving the conditions of service for National Service Scheme (NSS) personnel, Community development programmes in rural areas, creating at least 300,000 employment opportunities under the District Jobs Initiative (DJI) as well as improving juvenile sporting activities and upgrading school sickbays into satellite clinics among others.”

Scanty indicated that the above list is a brief aspect of the promises, saying, “…and this is just a fraction of what was promised.”
