The Thailand–South Africa Business Matchmaking Forum successfully brought together Thai exporters and South African buyers at the Southern Sun Sandton on 13 August 2026, creating a focused platform for new sourcing, distribution and market-entry opportunities.

Supported by the Royal Thai Embassy and delivered in partnership with Catalyze, the forum connected export-ready Thai manufacturers with South African importers, distributors, retailers, wholesalers, hospitality groups and procurement decision makers through a structured programme of pre-arranged, one-on-one business meetings.

Strong Business Engagement
The forum generated:
- 252 pre-arranged B2B meetings
- 37 South African buyers and business representatives
- 12 participating Thai companies
Each meeting was tailored according to the buyers’ product interests, purchasing requirements and business capabilities, ensuring relevant discussions between the Thai exporters and South African companies.
The structured 15-minute meeting format enabled participants to engage with multiple potential partners during a single business programme.

Thai products showcased to the South African market
The participating Thai companies presented a diverse range of products suited to South African retail, wholesale, hospitality, food-service and distribution markets.
Products showcased included:
- Thai sauces, marinades, curry pastes and seasonings
- chilli sauces and traditional Thai condiments
- coconut milk, coconut cream and coconut-based products
- rice, noodles and convenient meal solutions
- ready-to-eat and packaged food products
- snacks, confectionery and speciality foods
- beverages and drink products
- natural, health-conscious and wellness-focused products
- food-service products for hotels, restaurants and caterers
- private-label and contract-manufacturing opportunities
- selected Thai lifestyle and consumer goods.
The meetings gave South African buyers the opportunity to evaluate products, inspect samples and discuss pricing, minimum order quantities, packaging, certifications, exclusivity and local market requirements directly with the manufacturers.

Building long-term trade partnerships
Discussions at the forum focused on practical commercial opportunities, including:
- importing Thai products into South Africa
- national and regional distribution partnerships
- retail and supermarket listings
- wholesale and cash-and-carry supply
- hospitality and food-service procurement
- commercial agency and representation
- private-label manufacturing
- product adaptation for the South African market
- expansion into Southern African markets.
Several buyers expressed interest in continued discussions, product testing, sample evaluation and potential supply arrangements.
Jamludi, a participating South African distributor identified several products suitable for its existing retail and wholesale network and agreed to continue discussions with the relevant Thai exporters following the event.

Direct access to new international suppliers
The forum provided South African businesses with direct access to Thai manufacturers without the cost and time associated with international travel.
For the Thai companies, it offered valuable insight into South African consumer demand, retail requirements, importing processes, packaging preferences and potential routes to market.
The programme was designed to move beyond general networking by facilitating targeted meetings with companies capable of importing, distributing, stocking, representing or purchasing Thai products.
“This forum was focused on creating genuine commercial connections between the visiting Thai companies and qualified South African buyers,” said Ms Wichuda from the Royal Thai Embassy. “The number and quality of meetings demonstrated strong interest in Thai products and created a valuable foundation for continued trade between Thailand and South Africa.”
Growing Thailand–South Africa trade relations
The success of the forum highlighted the potential for closer trade cooperation between Thailand and South Africa, particularly within the food, beverage, hospitality, retail and consumer-products sectors.
South African buyers continue to seek innovative international products, differentiated retail offerings, convenient food solutions and reliable manufacturing partners.
Thai exporters are well positioned to respond to this demand through their combination of traditional products, modern manufacturing capabilities, internationally recognised food-safety standards and export-ready product ranges.
