The 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), has commenced operational activities in Wukari, Taraba State, following its relocation from Jalingo.
The relocation, approved by the Chief of Army Staff, is part of efforts to strengthen the Nigerian Army’s presence in southern Taraba and enhance ongoing operations against insecurity across the state.
The Brigade had been relocated from Jalingo following the establishment of the 10 Division Nigerian Army Headquarters in the state capital.
Speaking to troops and journalists after the relocation, the Commander, 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, said the movement to Wukari would not affect the formation’s mandate.
Akaliro assured residents that the Brigade remained committed to protecting lives and property and sustaining peace across its area of responsibility.
He said the Brigade would deploy both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to address security challenges, while urging officers and soldiers to maintain discipline, professionalism and commitment to their constitutional responsibilities.
“The mandate and goals of the Brigade remain the same, despite the change in location. We will continue to do everything within our capacity to protect the people and their property and ensure that the peace being enjoyed in Taraba State is sustained,” he said.
As part of activities marking the commencement of operations at the new location, the Brigade Commander paid a courtesy visit to the Aku-Uka of Wukari and Chairman of the Taraba State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Ishaku Adda Ali, at his palace.
The visit was aimed at formally introducing the Brigade to the traditional institution, paying homage to the monarch and seeking his royal blessing and support for the military’s operations in the area.
Akaliro expressed appreciation to the monarch and people of Wukari for their warm reception and support, assuring them that the Brigade would remain committed to the protection of lives and property.
In his response, the Aku-Uka welcomed the Brigade Commander and the officers and soldiers to Wukari, assuring the military of the continued cooperation and support of the traditional institution and residents.
He said the people would work with the military to enable it to effectively discharge its constitutional responsibilities.
To demonstrate its operational readiness and reassure residents of its commitment to their safety, the Brigade also conducted a route march through Wukari and adjoining areas.
The exercise allowed residents to witness the preparedness and discipline of the troops while reinforcing confidence in the military’s presence in the area.
Other activities marking the commencement of operations included the presentation of the Quarter Guard, an address to troops, prayers, presentation of souvenirs and group photographs.
The relocation is expected to strengthen the Nigerian Army’s operational capabilities in southern Taraba and complement the activities of the newly established 10 Division Nigerian Army Headquarters in Jalingo.
