NDC can be voted out after one term – Miracles Aboagye

New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Communications Director aspirant, Dennis Miracles Aboagye says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) can be voted out of power after just one term if Ghanaians are dissatisfied with its performance.

His remarks come amid the perception that parties elected to power under the Fourth Republic typically secure a second term before handing over to another government.

Mr Aboagye, however, said the NDC’s status as a first-term government would not guarantee it a second term, arguing that President John Dramani Mahama is serving his second term even though the NDC is in its first term.

He said Ghanaian voters had also become more sophisticated and would assess the NDC based on its record in office.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Friday, September 4, 2026, Mr Aboagye said the outcome of the 2028 election would depend on how voters assess the government’s performance at the time.

“You are performing poorly. The people will remove you. So the fact that you are part of an NDC party that has won 80, if we get to 50 we should stop there, when you are not performing,” he said.

He dismissed the notion that the NDC could rely on the traditional advantage of first-term governments seeking re-election.

“Elections in Ghana today are about how the people feel at the time they are going to vote,” he said.

According to him, the NPP’s focus ahead of 2028 would be on presenting Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s proposed solutions to the challenges facing Ghanaians while scrutinising the NDC government’s record and campaign promises.

He maintained that voters would ultimately determine whether the NDC deserved another term based on their assessment of the government’s performance.
