Businessman Lord Ibrahim Sani has announced his intention to contest Ghana’s next presidential election as an independent candidate under a newly launched political movement, the Rising Generation Movement (RGM).

The announcement marks Mr. Sani’s entry into frontline politics, with the movement positioning itself as a youth-led platform advocating an alternative approach to governance and national development.

Speaking at the launch of the movement, Mr. Sani said the Rising Generation Movement aims to restore public trust in leadership, empower young people and promote practical, citizen-focused policies anchored on accountability and good governance.

He said the movement seeks to bring together young professionals, entrepreneurs, students and community leaders around a shared vision of economic opportunity, transparent governance and inclusive leadership.

According to Mr. Sani, many Ghanaians, particularly young people, have become disillusioned with the country’s political system and are looking for leaders who prioritise competence, accountability and public service over partisan interests.

He said his independent presidential bid would focus on addressing unemployment, supporting entrepreneurship, improving education and healthcare, and driving economic transformation through practical policy interventions.

“The Rising Generation Movement is not just about contesting an election. It is about giving Ghanaians renewed hope and creating a platform where the next generation can shape the future of this country,” he said.

Mr. Sani said the movement will begin nationwide engagements in the coming months as it mobilises supporters, establishes regional structures and unveils its policy agenda ahead of the presidential election.
