Ghana’s emerging football talent will take centre stage when the 35th Inter-Regional Basic Schools Sports Festival begins on 25 August 2026.

The football competition will run until 4 September, bringing together basic school teams from across the country as part of a festival organised by the Ghana Education Service.

The event is expected to give young boys and girls the opportunity to test themselves in a competitive setting, display their footballing ability and gain experience that can contribute to their development.

Football will be one of the major components of the festival, which will feature separate boys’ and girls’ competitions. The matches are intended to provide a platform for players from Ghana’s basic schools to compete for regional pride while attracting attention to the depth of talent emerging at that level.

The Ghana Football Association is collaborating with the Ghana Education Service to support the football programme. As part of that partnership, the GFA will provide logistical assistance to help ensure the games are staged successfully.

The University of Ghana Sports Complex in Legon has been selected as the main venue for the football competition. It will host the young players as they represent their respective regions during the festival.

For the participating school teams, the competition will combine the opportunity to compete with an important stage in their football education. The boys’ and girls’ tournaments will allow the players to gain valuable match experience in an organised inter-regional event.

The festival’s wider purpose is to bring together basic school sporting talent from across Ghana, while football’s prominent role is expected to make the competition a significant showcase for the country’s young players.

With teams arriving from the regions, the event will place the focus on school football and the development of young athletes. The players will be competing for regional pride at the University of Ghana Sports Complex, Legon, while taking another step in their progression.

The 35th Inter-Regional Basic Schools Sports Festival will therefore offer a national platform for young footballers to demonstrate their abilities in both the boys’ and girls’ competitions. Its football programme will run from 25 August to 4 September 2026, with the Ghana Education Service leading the festival and the Ghana Football Association providing logistical support.
